The pioneering underground artist — and the first woman to draw Wonder Woman professionally — has died at the age of 85…
UPDATED 4/10/24: Eisner Hall of Famer Trina Robbins, who was at the forefront of the underground comics movement and, later, the first woman to draw Wonder Woman for DC Comics, has died at the age of 85.
Her sunny, cartoony style was all the more subversive given the adult, progressive themes of her work. I never met her in person, but we did correspond over the years. She was engaging, forthright and downright delightful.
She’ll be missed greatly and we wish all the best to her family, including her partner, comics artist Steve Leialoha.

I assume we’re not counting team books because otherwise wouldn’t the first woman to draw Wonder Woman be Ramona Fradon (in Super Friends)?
In any event, R.I.P. to the inestimable Ms Robbins.
