13 COVERS: A SHELDON MOLDOFF Birthday Celebration

The Silver Age stalwart was born 99 years ago…

Every year, I point out that the late Sheldon Moldoff is the Batman artist who gets a bad rap. It’s still true, but whenever I post one of these 13 COVERS birthday salutes in his honor, readers seem to dig it.

Which is really heartening. It’s nice to know there are still plenty of people out there who have room in their comics for a lighter, goofier version of the Dark Knight.

As a kid, I loved my late ’50s/early ’60s back issues, so it’s always a kick to sort through these covers to pick out our annual selection.

So here we go: Sheldon Moldoff was born April 14, 1920 — 99 years ago. Check out these nifty 13 COVERS:

  1. I love that era. Back when comics could inspire a child’s imagination.

  2. I have been a fan of Mr. Moldoff’s work before I knew it was him! As a kid of 8 years old I copied his work in Batman comics in the mid 60s thinking it was Bob Kane! Grew to appreciate his Golden Age work on Green Lantern and Hawkman.
