13 COVERS: A RAMONA FRADON Birthday Celebration

Ramona Fradon was born Oct. 2, 1926.

Ramona Fradon was a pioneer in comics, with a decades-long career largely at DC. She’s one of the few women cartoonists whose career stretched from the Golden Age to the Modern Age. She’s best known for her work on Aquaman (she co-created Aqualad) and Metamorpho (whom she also co-created). She also worked as a cartoonist on the Brenda Starr strip.

She wasn’t a prolific cover artist but there are plenty of examples that showcase her talents. (She was an Aquaman interior artist, so I cobbled together what covers I could.)

Happy birthday to Ramona Fradon, who turns 89.

(The usual caveat applies: This is a subjective list and not a ranking of any kind. This is pretty much what I dig and you may feel very differently. So, rather than beef about a cover you don’t see, instead join in the fun and share your own choices in the comments section or in whatever social-media thread you saw this.)
