Picking the Top 3 comics of the week has been really hard lately. There is so much good stuff out there — what a great time to be a comic book fan. And if you aren’t yet and you just found this column by accident, please find your local comic book shop and visit them! They will have recommendations for you that far exceed what I am able to do here. Plus, comics shops are super cool!

First this week, a book I have been waiting on for a very long time, Terry Moore’s Motor Girl from Abstract Studios. When Rachel Rising ended I was sad, but knowing that this book was coming along made it easier to stomach. And was this worth the wait? That would be affirmative. I am already in love with this book after one issue. Please get this book and read it and love it and share it and put it on your pull list at your local comic book shop. This is a fantastic comic. It’s like this year’s World Series: It’s what comics should be all about!

Next, DC’s Green Lanterns #10. The Phantom Ring is back thanks to Sam Humphries, Eduardo Pansica, and cover artist Ed Benes. This story has been phenomenal and the new lantern oath actually made me super happy. I read it in the store to some customers and they immediately bought the book. Plus, there is one page in here that I just want to frame because I love it so much. If you aren’t on this series, you should be.

Finally, please check out Boom’s hardcover of Jim Henson‘s Labyrinth Artist Tribute featuring work by Mike Allred, Katie Cook, Joelle Jones, Mark Buckingham, Faith Erin Hicks and so many more amazing artists. I must put the disclaimer that I am a sucker for anything Labyrinth (or David Bowie for that matter!) but this is beautiful. If you are a fan of the movie or just of good art, this is worth your time and money!

Lightning Round: From Dark Horse and the amazing Mike Norton come the final book of Battlepug. Get Volume 5: The Paws of War and relish in its glory. It’s pug-a-licious. Tom King and Mitch Gerads’ Sheriff of Babylon #12 from Vertigo is the ending that we deserve. I wish this series would have never ended, but what a great finish. And yes, you should all know by now to pick up everything that Tom King writes. And Marvel’s The Unworthy Thor brought to us by Jason Aaron and Olivier Coipel is outstanding! The last page made me giddy. GIDDY, I tell you.

Speaking of giddy, I saw the Doctor Strange movie.

So here’s the thing. When Iron Man came out, it was amazing that we were seeing him on the big screen. Then The Avengers came out and there was this awesome team movie happening that I never thought I would see. Through all that, I never thought there would be a Doctor Strange movie, besides the made-for-TV one, which I actually love. (Click here.) I mean, I LOVE Doctor Strange. I love him enough to have a permanent reminder of him on my body.

I’m not going to talk about that this week because spoilers. I want everyone to be able to see this movie with fresh eyes. I still wish that Jon Hamm was Doctor Strange, just my personal opinion (it’s the chin!), but that Cumberbatch fella, I guess he will make something out of his acting career. And he did a phenomenal job — the whole movie was incredible and I cannot wait to see it again and again. And please, stay through the whole credits. I still can’t believe people leave Marvel movies right after they end.

Until next week, keep reading comics — and go see Doctor Strange!
