JOHN ARCUDI’S DEAD INSIDE Playlist

Want to feel Dead Inside?

It’s simple, pick up John Arcudi’s new creator-owned series from Dark Horse that debuts 12/21.

Here’s the official description: The Jail Crimes Division of the Sheriff’s Office in Mariposa County investigates crimes committed inside county jails. With a limited number of suspects who can’t escape, these are usually easy cases to solve—but not this one. As Detective Linda Caruso gets closer to the heart of the case, she discovers uncomfortable truths about her friends, her job, and herself.

Sounds like a premium cable show waiting to happen, if you ask me. And what’s a moody story like this without music? So here’s John Arcudi’s hand-picked playlist for Dead Inside, interspersed with some really cool preview art by Toni Fejzula and Andre May, as well as character designs and sketches by Fejzula.

“I never listen to music when writing, but most of the time I’m not writing, I am,” Arcudi says. “These are songs I’ve loved for a long, or a for a little, while. Each of them — for one reason or another — puts me in the mood for writing Dead Inside. A lot of slow, sad songs here certainly strike the vibe, but Linda Caruso’s sense of humor — which I guess is really my sense of humor, too — makes songs like Hell Broke Luce, and especially I Fought the Law necessary inclusions.”

“Don’t Wanna Fight,” Alabama Shakes

“Let’s Go Out Tonight,” Craig Armstrong

“Fifty-Fifty Clown,” Cocteau Twins

“Nightcall,” Kavinsky

Faith Erin Hicks variant

“Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby,” Cigarettes After Sex

“I See a Darkness,” Bonnie Prince Billy

“Clementine,” Sarah Jaffe

“Hell Broke Luce,” Tom Waits

“I Fought the Law,” The Crickets

Dead Inside debuts 12/21, from Dark Horse.
