HOT PICKS! On Sale This Week!

Scott and Dan pick the comics they’re most looking forward to this week …

Scott Tipton, co-owner, Blastoff Comics, North Hollywood, Calif.

Star Trek Cats, Chronicle Books. I have no idea what this is, but my Star Trek editor will love it.

Captain America Epic Collection: Justice Is Served, Marvel. More of the Mark Gruenwald run, collected at last!

Mighty Avengers by Bendis: Complete Collection TPB, Marvel. I forgot how much I enjoyed this run, with great Frank Cho art and some of my favorite Avengers like Wonder Man, Wasp and Ms. Marvel finally in the spotlight.

X-Men Gold #1, Marvel. Well, it’s not the X-Men of my youth, but it’s the closest it’s been in a while. I’ll give it a try.

Dan Greenfield, editor, 13th Dimension

Batman #20, DC. Hey, guess what? I don’t like Bane. I never really have. Except Tom Hardy’s version and that’s because he was so weird. Tom King’s Bat-run’s been pretty solid but I’m glad we’re at the finale of this particular arc. I know that’s a counterintutive Hot Pick, but there you have it.

Superman #20, DC. I’ve read this one already. Solid set-up to the Man of Steel’s next adventure, by Tomasi, Gleason and Gray. Superboy remains front and center, which I think is great. He’s been a terrific addition to Superman’s world. Oh, and if you’re expecting a bunch of answers to all the questions raised by Reborn, keep waiting…

X-Men Gold #1, Marvel. I’ve read this one, too. (What a life!) Also a nice set-up, picking up where we left off from X-Men Prime, with Kitty taking leadership of what I suppose you could call the Original New X-Men. By Guggenheim, Syaf, Leisten, Martin and co.

True Believers: X-Men #1 and Giant-Size X-Men #1, Marvel. In conjunction with the X-Men reboot, Marvel’s publishing these $1 reprints. Even if you can get these stories in about 15 different X-Men collections, it’s still fun to go to the counter and buy each of these issues for a buck.
