Star Trek Gold Key 100-Page Spectacular, IDW Publishing. Here’s a great way to get a taste of some truly crazy Star Trek comics from the 1960s and early ’70s without having to invest in vintage comics or pricey hardcovers. For better or worse, these were the Trek comics I grew up on, and I loved ’em.

X-Files: Deviations 2017 #1, IDW Publishing. These IDW “What if?” books have been consistently fun, and this one features the art of my longtime collaborator Elena Casagrande. Well worth checking out. Written by Amy Chu.

X-Factor Epic Collection: Genesis and Apocalypse TPB, Marvel. This was… a weird run. Back then, just the idea of Jean Grey being alive again seemed so shocking. Plus the concept: The X-Men posing as racist mutant-hunters, so as to find mutants and help them? It’s weird, right? I’m looking forward to re-reading this from the start and seeing how it holds up.

Death of Hawkman #6, DC. My prediction? Hawkman dies! But much like the main Earth’s Superman died and was replaced by “original” Superman, my take is that Hawkman will be back when DC brings back the Justice Society. I mean, if “original” Jay Garrick is coming back…

Superman #18, DC. Speaking of Superman, this title has been top-notch since the beginning of Rebirth and now we’re promised some big answers to big questions with the start of the Superman Reborn crossover with Action. I love the cover scheme, too. Very Man of Steel, which I’m sure is no accident. (Covers in the crossover will connect to form larger images too.) By Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Mick Gray.

All Time Comics: Crime Destroyer #1, Fantagraphics. Finally, we get to see what all the fuss is about. This new line of comics — a mash-up of Bronze Age and indie sensibilities — features the final work of Herb Trimpe, on display in this issue. Written by Josh Bayer, the series’ mastermind. Inks by Ben Marra.
