EXCLUSIVE Preview — MARVEL COMICS DIGEST #2: THE AVENGERS

Avengers assemble! In a neat little package!

So let’s take stock, shall we?

Marvel’s brought back the much-beloved treasury edition; is bringing back Marvel Value Stamps this fall as part of its Legacy revamp; and has planned a series of variant covers based on ’60s T-shirt designs, featuring the art of Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.

EXCELSIOR!

But let’s not forget the digest format the House of Ideas has dusted off with the help from the fine folks at Archie Comics, the digest kings. The first little package of awesome — starring Spider-Man — came out a few weeks back, timed to the new movie.

It was filled with stories old and recent, giving readers a pretty good feel for Spidey over the decades. Best part? You could find it beyond the boundaries of your local comics store — in shops, supermarkets and other places periodicals are sold, just like the olden days. (Also, these are only printed once. So after they’re gone, they’re gone, man!)

Next up? The Avengers — come 8/2!

The cover’s by John Cassaday and Laura Martin and features the following stories: Avengers (1963) #1-2, #235-237; Marvel Adventures The Avengers #9, #16; Marvel Universe Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes (2012) #6; Marvel Universe Avengers Assemble #1-2. All for $7.

Yeah, so this is just a partial line-up of creators: Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Roger Stern, Bob Budiansky, Joe Sinnott, Al Milgrom, Jeff Parker and Rob Williams.

Check out these EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW pages. Oh, and next issue?: THOR!

With all this retro hoopla, I’m still holding out hope for Slurpee cups!
