The 13 DAYS OF THE NEAL ADAMS GALLERY Index

A daily, virtual tour of the master’s HQ.

Back around New York Comic Con, I wrote a piece about Neal Adams’ new Midtown Manhattan gallery, housed at his Continuity art studio.

It wasn’t quite finished, but Neal led me on a tour around the place (click here to check it out — you definitely want to), showing off a lot of the artwork on display and giving me an idea of what fans can expect if they make plans to go.

Well, now the NEAL ADAMS GALLERY is complete. I went back for a second look and was even more impressed. So much so, that I was inspired to launch 13 DAYS OF THE NEAL ADAMS GALLERY, starting Monday, 11/28.

Every day, I’ll be posting a piece of artwork from the dozens of pages, covers, paintings and strips adorning the gallery. Even better, Neal will be providing EXCLUSIVE commentary on each piece. (Just about everything you’ll see is in addition to what’s in that link above.)

The gallery, located at 15 W. 39th Street, is open to the public free of charge but you have to call first before you come over (212-869-4170). You’ll be led on a tour of the place and you can buy original artwork, CGC-graded comics, prints, books and even T-shirts. You can even get Neal’s autograph in person if he’s around. He charges his convention rate of $30 per signature if you bring your own materials. However, if you buy an item at the gallery, the signature is free.

(Neal works at the studio but he also travels quite a bit to shows around the country, so make sure you call first.)

What’s great is that the gallery is completed just in time for the holiday season, so if you live in the NYC metropolitan area or are in town for vacation, you can turn one of your shopping days into a comic-book extravaganza. There at least four comics shops — two of them are Midtown Comics outlets — within walking distance of the gallery, not to mention the high-end, appointment-only Metropolis Collectibles, which is now only two blocks away. (Plus, y’know, you can visit Times Square, Bryant Park, the New York Public Library, Grand Central and so on…)

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Adams crew is considering weekend hours too. (Since it’s the holiday season, you may even get a weekend appointment now, so by all means call.)

Anyway, check it out either now or — if you’re an out-of-towner — when you’re in New York for one of the big comics shows, whether it be New York Comic Con in October or East Coast Comicon, across the Hudson River every spring. (There are others too.)

In the meantime, here is the 13 DAYS OF THE NEAL ADAMS GALLERY INDEX — updated daily. Click on the links to see the artwork — and read Adams’ EXCLUSIVE commentary:

  1. Neal has one of the most dynamic styles in the world of comic art. His generosity, of giving away his sketchbook on Free Comic Book Day, shows he is a true artist willing to share his immense talent with the world. I applaud one of the great talents of the industry. Best, Nick
