COOL EVENT ALERT: THE SPIRIT in NYC

The kinetic Arlen Schumer takes on Eisner’s greatest 4/30.

Schumer will present one of his “visual lectures” at the Poe Park Visitor Center, closing an exhibit on Will Eisner. Arlen, who has enough energy to light up Yankee Stadium, will go on at 2 p.m. He always puts on an entertaining, informative, visually robust show. For more info, click here.

Says the official release: “Join us for the closing of the exhibit Will Eisner’s 75th anniversary by celebrating the 99 years of Will Eisner’s life and legacy. This is the last chance to observe how one Bronxite made a difference and changed the world of Comics, Literacy and the Graphic Novel. Join Arlen Schumer, writer/illustrator/designer and comic book historian (The Silver Age of Comic Book Art) as he presents a Master’s Class on Eisner using The Spirit as its primer: a big-screen retrospective overview of Eisner’s magnum opus, and all of its revolutionary graphic tropes and storytelling techniques—character design, staging, lighting, lettering, panel and page design—that make Eisner the D. W. Griffith of comic book art!”
