BREAKING: BATMAN ’66 MEETS STEED AND MRS. PEEL Coming in June

We knew it was coming — but now there’s a date!

LettercolBatman03

DC announced this morning that Batman ’66 Meets Steed and Mrs. Peel — first announced last year by Dan DiDio (click here) — will be hitting digital devices in June and print in July.

It’ll be a 12-part digital-first series and 6-issue print series, written by Ian Edginton, with art by Matthew Dow Smith. And naturally, the comic will feature groovy covers by Mike Allred.

John Steed and Emma Peel, played by Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg, were The Avengers, the quintessential Brit TV spy show. I have many a fond memory watching it on late-Saturday night reruns as a kid. But more on that down the line.

All I gotta say is we better get an umbrella fight between Steed and the Penguin and a catsuit battle between Mrs. Peel and Julie Newmar’s Catwoman. Meow!

By the way, if you want to hear Mike talk about all things Batman ’66 — the show and comics — and tease what’s coming after Steed and Mrs. Peel, click here. Believe me, it’s well worth your Bat-time because it’s a great conversation about all things ’66 and retro TV!

New Digital First Series BATMAN ’66 MEETS STEED AND MRS. PEEL to launch in June

Holy 1960s-TV crossover! Capitalizing on the past success of the Green Hornet and The Man From U.N.C.L.E crossovers, DC Comics is partnering with BOOM! Studios to pair together two of the hippest shows from the ’60s in the new Digital First comic book miniseries BATMAN ’66 MEETS STEED AND MRS. PEEL.

Launching June 8th as a 12-chapter, bi-weekly series based on the classic 1960s Batman TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward, the comic will feature Batman and Robin coming face-to-face for the first time with the other (and English) dynamic duo John Steed and Mrs. Peel – characters from the hit ’60s British TV series The Avengers starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg.

Critically acclaimed British comic book writer Ian Edginton (X-Force, JUSTICE LEAGUE) has been tapped to pen the series, joined by artist Matthew Dow Smith (JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS & MONSTERS – BATMAN). Cover artists include BATMAN ’66 veteran Michael Allred and fan-favorite artist Cat Staggs, who contributes a variant cover for issue #1.

Following the digital release in June, the comic will debut as a print periodical in July as a 6-issue series. Below is the first issue description and attached is the cover by Michael Allred:

As Bruce Wayne shows the beautiful head of a UK electronics company the sights of Gotham, they are interrupted by the felonious feline Catwoman! Unwilling to leave Miss Michaela Gough unprotected, Bruce resigns himself to the fact that Batman cannot save the day. But some new players have arrived in town – though even as the lovely, catsuit-clad Mrs. Peel and her comrade John Steed take control of the situation, nefarious plots continue apace!
