UPDATED 8/24/16: To see what BURT WARD and JULIE NEWMAR have to say about the new movie, click here.

IGN got the trailer today, along with an official description that has the Dynamic Duo going up against the Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler — with a “replicator ray” gumming things up.

So watch it (as if you haven’t already) — and buckle up citizens, for 13 QUICK THOUGHTS:

1. Interesting to see some of the show’s tropes from a different perspective, such as Bruce and Dick running to the Batpoles from the reverse perspective …

2. … and seeing the Batcowl actually lower onto Batman’s face. Cool!

3. Sound effects check: SMOK!! BOFF! SLAM!

4. I wanted to hear Julie Newmar!

5. Not to be a negative citizen, but the Batcave seems to lack a lot of the detail that made it so special. I know we just got a glimpse, but still.

6. So my question about likenesses was answered: Gordon is definitely generic, old-school comics style, with mustache. Man, I really wish Neil Hamilton’s estate was part of this whole Batman ’66 thing.

7. Penguin’s voice sounded nothing like Burgess Meredith and Joker’s laugh sounded nothing like Cesar Romero. But you know what they did sound like? Filmation. And that’s cool.

8. Speaking of Filmation, did they do this on purpose? Because if they did, that’s GREAT!

9. From the PG MPAA warning out front: Action, Suggestive Material and my favorite — Rude Humor.

10. Hector and the Hodaddies, huh? Please tell me there will be surfing in this movie.

11. With a “replicator ray” promising doppelgangers, according to the official description, what are the chances we’ll see a surprise Eartha Kitt Catwoman?

12. Whoever did William Dozier’s voice on the TV set nailed it.

13. Y’know what? Do not be surprised if you hear an announcement for a second animated movie. Maybe timed for when this one’s released in the fall. I’ve heard some things around Gotham, citizens …

  1. A couple more random thoughts:

Commissioner Gordon looks a lot like Alan Napier as Alfred (and sounds to me a lot like Ted Knight in one of his all-purpose Filmation bat-voices). O’Hara bears a pretty strong resemblance to Stafford Repp.

Unlike the live-action TV batcave, this one has a T-Rex! Might the giant penny appear as well? It also has a version of the atomic pile made famous on the TV series.

In perhaps another Filmation “homage,” one of the Hector and the Hodaddies audience members is wearing a varsity sweater with a backwards “G” on it.

    • Great minds think alike–I was wondering why Alfred was using the Batphone in Commissioner Gordon’s office!

  2. The Batpoles seem to be the same thickness. On the show, Batman’s was thicker. Oh, I feel creepy just typing this.

    • By that I mean that when they’re leaving the Batcave, Robin gets in on the driver’s side.

  3. I about lost soda out of my nose, the campy jokes are great. The only roux is in the gravy

  4. “Gotham Palace” appears to be modeled after ABC’s real life 1960s variety show, “The Hollywood Palace.” Somebody really did their pop culture homework.

  5. Trailer looks better then the real thing. But of course it is a hindsight creation. Isn’t it ?

  6. I think they must have flopped that whole Batpoles to Batmobile scene. Robin’s inverted “R” on the right breast and him driving the Batmobile says they flopped it. So in the real film, the angles are probably reversed from the traditional shot, filmed for the pilot and reused on nearly every episode. Of course, Filmation would do this and pay no attention to it, just to get the characters headed in the right direciton.

There does seem to be some Filmation influence, which doesn’t surprise me. James Tucker did some nods to Filmation’s Batman on BTAS’ “Legends of the Dark Knight” Finger/Sprang segment (which he storyboarded) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (which he produced).

  7. A little better than the first trailer. Adam West sounds much less creaky. Keeping my fingers crossed. I hope they try more for a first season vibe than third season. Please.

  8. Now lets get Lynda Carter to voice a Wonder Woman ’77 movie!

  9. Most of the actors from Batman 66′ are dead. I think the only ones alive are Adam West, Bard, Julie Nemar. I think they could only do what’s is recast the characters who’s actors are long dead. It’s no much they can do. I just hope they at least sound somewhat similar to them.
