13 COVERS: A JIM STARLIN Birthday Celebration

Let’s get cosmic…

Jim Starlin always seemed perfectly suited to write and illustrate stories of cosmic existentialism by his name alone: Starlin. It’s almost fate.

As it turns out, Starlin gave comics fans much more than that: His intergalactic tales helped form the foundation of the modern Marvel, with Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet providing the central conflict of Marvel Studios’ insanely successful cinematic universe.

He also wrote and illustrated what some still consider the greatest graphic novel ever, The Death of Captain Marvel.

Starlin is responsible for much more but his cosmic creations have the greatest agency right now. So to celebrate his 66th birthday — he was born Oct. 9. 1949 — we bring you 13 COVERS that celebrate his most stellar Marvel work from the Bronze and Modern ages, including Thanos, Captain Marvel and Warlock. (12 are by Starlin and one is by George Perez. I couldn’t leave The Infinity Gauntlet itself out, now could I?)

Don’t see your fave below? That’s cool. Just add it in the comments below or in whichever social-media thread you found this.
