13 COVERS: A JERRY SIEGEL Birthday Celebration

The co-creator of Superman — and, in turn, the comic-book superhero, was born Oct. 17, 1914. That’s 101 years ago!

What can you say about Jerry Siegel, who along with Joe Shuster, created the Man of Steel? Really, I can’t say anything that hasn’t been said. So here are 13 COVERS to salute one of the men we have to thank for giving us the superhero comic book.

I’ve decided to keep the covers to Action Comics, just because that was the book that put the industry on the map. All of these covers include stories written by Siegel.

Jerry Siegel was born 101 years ago. He died in 1996 at the age of 81.

(Here’s the usual caveat: This is a subjective list and not a ranking of any kind. This is pretty much what I dig and you may feel very differently. So, rather than beef about a cover you don’t see, instead join in the fun and share your own choices in the comments section or in whatever social-media thread you saw this.)
